It's taken me a while to get organized but I have uploaded the photos from Ray's camera of Matt departure day.

Amy and Jane
Amy left for Sydney on January 10th and stayed with Sarah, Kareen, Daniel and Sophia for a couple of days before going out to The Kings School in Parramatta to attend the Gondwana Choral School 2009.
I left Perth January 18th for 9 days in Sydney. Here is a snapshot of my visit.

Welcome Back Andrew
On Tuesday 13th January we welcomed Andrew back from his RYE year in Sweden. I almost didn't recognize him as he came through the customs doors atb the airport - long hair, skinny and he was looking really happy although very tired after hi long plane trip.
His day was very long on Tuesday as we had a farewell dinner for Luiz before taking him to the airport. I am sure bed was looking very inviting when he eventually got there about 1.30am!!
After an early start on Thursday morning at the West Perth Rotary meeting we stopped in at Ikea before running some other errands. Andrew was happy to see some familiar Swedish products - food and other that he will be able to get out there!

2009
Although I hadn't intended to see the New Year in, Amy wanted to do so for the first time so I stayed up with her. We didn't do anything much - just watched a movie as the clock ticked over!
On 7th January we had a Farewell Picnic for Luiz in Kings Park with several of the other RYE students who are in Perth.
Luiz gave a talk at West Perth Rotary Club on January 9th and thanked the Rotary Club and host families for the wonderful time he had had.

Next was the Farewell afternoon tea for Luiz at his Counsellor's House.

On his second last day Luiz, Matt and I trekked all the way out to Caversham Wildlife Park but it was definitely worth it. We saw kangaroos, koalas, many different types of native birds and could go up close and take photos. Here a a few of the great pics we took!
On his final day in Perth Luiz came out to the airport and welcomed Andrew back then we all went to dinner at La Porchetta in Fremantle before heading to the airport again to send Luiz on his way back to Brazil.
It was an absolute delight having Luiz as part of our family and I know we will keep in touch and see each other again hopefully in the not too distant future.

The End of 2008!!
I'm not sure where the last month went but it disappeared as fast as the other 11 months.
Matt was free of school and had enjoyed his week at Leavers in Dunsborough. Amy finished off assignments and had a few exams and Jane had the usual panic to write reports and submit them on time!
Andrew had entered a competition on TripleJ and won tickets for Matt to go to the Bloc Party concert and meet and greet the band. As he was under 18 he had to take Ray along as a responsible adult! Matt really enjoyed the whole experience - not so sure about Ray!
We welcomed Luiz Veloso into our home till mid January. Luiz is a Rotary exchange student from Apucarana in Brazil and has been in Perth since February.

Luiz went with Ray, Matt and Will to Rottnest for a couple of days - staying at the Youth Hostel and riding lots of k's on their bikes.
Matt's 17th Birthday was a low key affair. He spent some time with friends and we had a chocolate cake at home.
Later that week Luiz went down to Busselton with Bill and Pat Young from the Rotary Club of West Perth. Ray met Luiz down there a couple of days later and showed him a bit more of the South-West. They stayed in Pemberton and Walpole and then after sightseeing in Albany they came home via Wave Rock in Hyden.
Matt attended his first meeting at the East Perth Rotary Club where he was presented with his blazer and some club banners.

Amy and I went for morning tea at Burswood Park so she could meet some of the others going to Gondwana in January. Here she is with Ariane and Georgina from Perth Mod - with the identical mobile phones!

Rather unexpectedly Christmas ended up at our house and whilst it meant a huge last minute run-around we had a great day.
Boxing Day saw Matt, Luiz, Will and eugene veging out in front of the tv watching the Boxing Day Test Match.

On December 27th we decided to go to Freo for some souvenir shopping for Matt and Luiz. It was not really the weather for trying on Ugg boots and other sheepskin products but we had a fun day.

The last event for 2008 was our annual street party which was held at our next door neighbours' and doubled as Steve's 60th Birthday party.
